Bad water?

I have a friend who has really bad water. She has lived in the residence for about 20 years, and it contains lots of minerals. However, over the years, it has become significantly worse, and now it has a blackish tint to it. It will turn any kind of metals, fake jewelry,etc. black, even if it is not exposed to the water. It is in the air! And also, she has had a problem lately of it eating through her faucets, and she has had several appliances fail. When the repairman came out, he said it's because it is in the air, and attacking the pipes. She has been told that there is sulfer in the water. Could this do that? She doesn't drink the water but it still doesn't seem safe to me and I am concerned about her health. Does anyone know anything about this?
