Why did the US not want Iran to nationalize the Anglo-American Oil Company?

I'm not well-versed in politics and foreign policy and all, but bear with me. Can anyone help explain why the US was opposed to Mohammad Mossadegh nationalizing that oil company? I don't know how nationalizing it would affect America (and England, I guess) negatively.
